Eye Treatment Nomenclature and Rates for Intravitreal Injections/Implants under WBHS

The West Bengal Health Scheme (WBHS) has recently updated its guidelines for eye treatments, including intravitreal injections and implants. This update reflects changes in medical practices and aims to provide patients with the most effective and affordable care.

Key Changes:

  • New Nomenclature: The nomenclature for eye treatments has been updated to reflect current medical standards.
  • Flexible Rates: The cost of intravitreal injections and implants will be based on the actual cost of the product. However, if the cost exceeds ₹50,000, prior permission from the Finance Department is required.
  • Procedural Cost: The procedural cost, excluding the cost of the injection or implant, remains at ₹4,000.

  • Modified Nomenclature: Cost of Intravitreal Injection/Implant
  • Maximum Approved Rate: Actual cost**
  • Existing Code: 01004082
  • Modified Nomenclature: Procedure of Intravitreal Injection/Implant (excluding cost of injection/implant), single eye treatment
  • Approved Rate: ₹4,000
 ** if the cost exceeds ₹50,000, prior permission from the Finance Department is required.

Previous Approved Rates Under WBHS (2008):

  • Code: 03002005
  • Description: Cost of Injection Lucentis
  • Maximum Approved Rate: ₹45,000
  • Code: 01004082
  • Description: Intravitreal Lucentis (excluding cost of injection), single eye treatment
  • Approved Rate: ₹4,000

Why the Changes?

  • Advancements in Medicine: The healthcare landscape has evolved, with new and improved treatments becoming available.
  • Clarity and Consistency: The updated guidelines aim to reduce confusion and ensure consistency in treatment practices.

Effective Date:

The new rates and nomenclature will take effect from 26/07/2024.
