- Public Holidays (List I): The Governor is using the authority given by a specific law (the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881) and a government notification from 1957 to officially declare certain days as public holidays for 2024. These holidays are listed in List I. On these days, most businesses and government offices will be closed.
- State Government Office Holidays (List II): In addition to the public holidays, the Governor is also announcing additional holidays for government offices in West Bengal. These holidays are listed in List II. However, two specific offices in Kolkata (the Registrar of Assurances and the Collector of the Stamp Revenue) will not be closed on these additional holidays.
- Sectional Holidays (List III): The Governor is also declaring certain days as sectional holidays for specific communities. These holidays are listed in List III and are intended for employees who belong to certain communities. Only these employees will get these days off.
