The National Teachers Award is a prestigious honor recognizing the exceptional contributions of teachers across India. Presented annually on Teacher’s Day (5th September) by the President or Vice President of India, this award aims to celebrate educators who have significantly enriched the lives of their students and enhanced the quality of education.

Award Timeline for 2024

  • 27th June to 15th July: Web portal opens for online self-nominations by teachers.
  • 16th July to 25th July: Shortlisting by District/Regional Selection Committees and forwarding to State/Organization Selection Committees.
  • Mid-July: Formation of Independent National Jury by the Union Education Minister.
  • 26th July to 4th August: State/Organization Committee shortlists forwarded to the Independent National Jury.
  • 5th & 6th August: Notification to shortlisted candidates (up to 154) for selection by the Jury.
  • 7th August to 12th August: Selection process by the Jury.
  • 13th August: Finalization of awardees by the Independent National Jury.
  • 14th to 20th August: Notification to selected candidates after approval.
  • 4th & 5th September: Rehearsal and Award Presentation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the National Teachers Award, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Eligible Institutions:

  • Schools run by State Governments, local bodies, or private schools affiliated with State Boards.
  • Central Government schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, etc.).
  • Schools affiliated with CBSE or CISCE.

Eligibility:

  • Teachers and Heads of Schools with at least ten years of service.
  • Retired teachers who served at least four months in the relevant year may be considered.
  • Educational Administrators and Inspectors are not eligible.
  • Contractual teachers and Shiksha Mitras are not eligible.

  • The Ministry of Education will oversee the portal’s development and maintenance.
